Free Guide Book

Hello, my name is paul glover, to be really honest i need some help and i am hoping that addmin on here will see my point and allow me to do this. To cut a long story short, I wrote a book a few years ago its called a pictorial guide to the pendle way, i did take it to a publisher but being a new auther and only being young they said they couldn't take the risk, they was really nice about it and gave me some really good advise, one piece of advise was to try taking it to my local council and see if they would be intrested which i did, and they did like it, the gentle man i so was really impressed with it, i had done the guide in the same style as Alfred Wainwright, not as good but it was ok anyway he asked me if he could have some pages as he was walking the way during his holidays, i abliged and 2 week later he rang me asking me too call in to see him. We went into a room and he told me it was fantastic, he never put a foot wrong and are way way better than the guides we have at the tourist information shops ect, he said that he had spoken to his colleges and they all agreed that not only was it better than there own guide of the pendle way but may be the other guides that they have for other short walks around the borough could also be done in this format, but they wanted me to go freelance and at the time i had 4 young children and wife so a permanant job was required, i went away with my book and through it in a cuboard until i came across it 4 week ago. I rang the council explained to them what i have told you but all they said was they have a guide pack allready and we dont think there would be any call for maps in this format, i said i would do all the other small and large walks around pendle as free-lance but they said no sorry, like we say there is no call for it. Right what i am endevering to do is prove them wrong, I have set up a web site (one of the cheapies) and i am giving this book away for free, there are no adverts on the site and i am not selling anything, if i can prove that there is a call for it then i have a fighting chance and i could possibly get the job i was offerd all them years ago, the thing is i have now got to sell them the idea, call me stupid or anything but i think that if you have a guide book you want to be told of thing of intrest along the way, when i say intrest i mean things that happened in a building not who built it and how long, there is a place on the way that had a 3 headed calf and it servived for 5 month, the farmer charged a hapenny per person to come and see it and the ironic thing is when it died he choked on the meat and died, his wife got smallpox and died 4 week later and the daughter was hung as a witch because the thought she was responsible for all three incidents, not many people know that and wouldnt you rather see a building and say well i didnt know that, amazing. All you have to do to help me is go to my site have a good read then yu know all there is to know about the book, the reason for the guest book is so i have a record of how many people requested the book, hope you all visit. thankyou. website is

THERE IS NOTHING SELLING ON THE SITE AND NO ADVERTS

NO CON, NO GIMIKS, THIS IS A GENUINE FREE OFFER.

Hope you like it,,,,,,,,especally as it free.

RE: Free Guide Book

Hi Paul

Well I live in Cheshire, and Pendle is on of those areas that , being near enough to go to essily, I've rather neglected over the years. When the chance of a free guide by a local author is offered it's got to be worth a look!
OK, I've looked at your website, and hope you dont mind some creative critisism. At least I hope it's constructive.
I looked at it purely as an end user of guidebooks. I'm not a writer of them, just a memeber of the public, your end user if you like. Here goes.
Firstly, you start the website with a big headline excusing spelling mistakes. Why? Surely if you want to be taken seriously by people, including local councils, this is a cardinal sin. Secondly, the language, or more specifically the bad language. Theres a time and place for industrial language (and yes. I do use it at times!!)but not on a website thats trying to promote your work to all and sundry.
Finally, the layout and grammar didnt make it easy to follow, at least for me, and the word I keep coming up with is professional - well it just isn't. This is a pity, because a quick look at the guide pages on the site seem to indicate a good 'product', but the problem is I didn't WANT to read them after trawling through that website.
I really hope you take my comments in the spirit they were intended, that of helping someone who has asked for it!
