Who could play Wainwright

Just had a weekend in the Lakes and my wife and I got round to discussing the recent movie about Beatrix Potter. In the film Miss Potter was played by an American lass whose name escapes me but we then thought that the story of Alfred Wainwright would make a great film, but who would play the part? We had great difficulty in coming up with potential actors and the best option we thought of was Kenneth Branagh. Any other ideas?

RE: Who could play Wainwright

I reckon Timothy Spall would be right at home with the curmudgeonly nature, and he has a similar build.

Same build, same hairstyle, same slightly dishevelled look. Even the same initials.

Kenneth Branagh is just too much of a fop. How about Brian Cox ?

Ken Branagh a fop? Have you seen him in Wallender? Brian Cox might be curmudgeonly enough but the only accent he can do is a Dundee one. No offense meant Mike.

Brian Blessed - now there's a thought. God forbid...

Mmm, what about Martin Clunes - you'd have to pin his ears back though...

Brian Glover -
"You play to your strengths in this game. My strength is as a bald-headed, rough-looking Yorkshireman". (Be good to have a Yorkshireman playing a Lancastrian - even if it's just to upset Lancastrians (only joking Lancastrians).

Only problem - he died in 1997. Thought I hadn't seen him in anything lately (apart from repeats of Campion).

Brian Glover

Bill Nighy

Bill Nighy
Wainwright

Think Bill Nighy's still alive.

Mmm, interesting resemblance there Dave. I'd never have thought of Bill Nighy.
