Can anyone recommend a half decent hotel in Mallaig? We're starting this year's Challenge from there and probably won't arrive there until late the day before start day.

Have you tried the Hilleberg chain of hotels? I'm staying in Hotel Akto, but you might find Hotel Nallo comfortable for two.

I'm approaching Knoydart from the north via the Arnisdale ferry. Not so busy.

The Hilleberg chain, specifically the excellent Nallo hotel, will be our main source of accommodation for our little holiday. Having said that, 'her indoors' does insist on a substantial dinner and breakfast occasionally. On this trip I've allowed her one luxury night, but I'm not sure if luxury actually applies to Mallaig. The other night of luxury I've promised her is Tarfside...

I can't speak for Mallaig itself but I have had a night at the Arisaig Hotel 8 miles south of Mallaig, good grub, good rooms, & very good view.

Thanks for that Screaming Tree. We've now booked in to the hotel with the Challenge check-out - I think it's the West Highland Hotel. Route is in and has been vetted so the next job is to dump a couple pf boxes of food etc along the way. Just wondering now whether I should plan to take an ice axe for our high level days. Looks as though it might be necessary, still loads of snow on the high tops.
