montane trousers

I have only just purchased these and tried them this weekend. I used terra trousers before but these are even better addition to the terra family.

They have all the same features thigh vents adjustable ankle cuffs etc but the mix of cordura fabric on the seat and knees mixed with the pertex equilibrium stretch makes them comfortable as well as hardwearing

weight of 480g is reasonable

9/10 from me worth a look

RE: montane trousers

I've had my pair for a few years now and definitely worth a 9/10, best walking trousers I've owned.

RE: montane trousers

This is helpful, as my Paramo trousers are threadbare to put it mildly, and trying to find a replacement pair of trousers (the Paramo is discontinued) with decent venting options is virtually impossible. I'll check out the Montanes.

K3nny if you have had them a few years you may have the older tactel pants which I agree are excellent and I also have had a pair for a few years but the new equilibrium ones are even better

RE: montane trousers

OK I may be getting my pants mixed up, these are the ones I have and are great, for warmer weather hiking ... I guess they are the tactel ones ??

What's different about the equilibrium ones?

RE: montane trousers

The look and fit of the trousers is very similar the new equilibrium trousers are slightly heavier however being Montane they are still very lightweight.

I have many pertex equilibrium products from the Montane Dynamo to Rab vapour rise
The main advantage over the tactel ones is that Pertex equilibrium structure creates permanent capillary action where sweat and rain always travel to the outer surface.
When you are working hard on a climb the sweat is pushed to the surface where it drys more easily. I have also found that even in a heavy shower they dry very quickly. This reduced the need to wear hard shell trousers when you are aware the rain is speradic.

The new trousers keep the same breathability and water resistance and as I agreed the tactel ones were and are great but I added that the new ones were better.

RE: montane trousers

Sorry, but I cannot join the Montane love-in.

Sizes seem an issue. I have one of their eVent jackets which surely has the wrong label in it. It claims to be medium but feels very small. By contrast, my medium Verso jacket is voluminous and so isn't as warm as I had hoped. A Patagonia puffer vest fits under it for deep winter. And my Terra trousers fly at half mast.

I hated the Cordura on the last trouser design. It tore the first time I sat on a rock when denim would not have done. Montane sent me a repair patch free of charge so credit where it is due, but the Cordura absorbed heat in the sun and felt cold in gloomy conditions. I think it could be successful as a patch fabric but is a bit of a disaster as a single layer. Other aspects of the design were fine so I was disappointed to see unnecessary changes when the all Coolmax (if that's the right fabric) trousers came out.

I wonder if Montane are producing too many products with insufficient time for prototyping - other companies certainly are!

RE: montane trousers

each to there own but I have to take you up on the size issue. I dont care if the label says small medium or large as long as it fits correctly. Does it impress you if you fit into a montane small. Are you thay worried if you need to buy a large.
The phrase "Does my bum look big in this" is not often heard in gear shops

Montane have used equilibrium stretch in a number of products for several years along with major brands like Rab. The trousers are a great design and they have simply matched them with a great fabric.

RE: montane trousers

I'm just looking for consistency and, so far as my few purchases are concerned, Montane don't provide it.

Sorry, if I didn't make this clear. If I had, perhaps your reply would have been more carefully considered.

Montane would get more business from me if I knew that internet purchases would fit. I live far from any decent gear shops and am reluctant to be spending money on posting things back till I get one that fits.
