TGO Challenge telly show

I've been told the The Adventure Show that is featuring this year's TGO Challenge will be broadcast on BBC-2 Scotland and Sky Channel 990 on Sunday August 3rd at 6pm. Hope you enjoy it. An hour long DVD of the event will be produced in a couple of months and we'll feature the details in TGO

Aargghh! Another example of us down south without Sky not being able to access programmes about the great outdoors. It's a good job I'm hoping to relocate to the Lake District before I'm forty. Apparently there was a series "up north" following Alan Hinkes 8000m challenge. Weir's Way? We (tragically) missed out on that as well. If anyone needs this stuff, we do!

Sorry, Jay. I believe the BBC has some kind of web-based thingy that allows viewers to watch programmes that have been aired. Anybody know anything about that?

Thanks Cameron

Unfortunately you're dealing with someone who has difficulty using a toaster let alone ibbc download web stuff (my internet access is through my Freeview digibox that doesn't have Sky 990 or BBC Scotland, I ditched my PC).

I interpret the whole situation as a subliminal message to urge me to move north and relocate to the hills so they can be a part of my daily life, not just treats every now and then. I'll have to buy the DVD of the TGO Challenge in the meantime, to join my extensive collection of Striding Edge videos... Do I need to get out more? :D Are there any DVD's of Wiers' Way out there by the way?

Don't worry. I'm only thinking of moving as far north as Cumbria - you know - where the most beautiful hills are :D

It should be available on the wonderful BBC iPlayer website for a week or two after showing on TV.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/

The length of time programs are available on iPlayer varies (due to copyright issues I believe), but is at least a week I think. iPlayer is only available in the UK, and for me only works on Internet Explorer (which I otherwise avoid like the plague). iPlayer's a fantastic thing, worth looking at for other programs besides this one.

I've hooked up our living room PC to our telly, so it's just like watching regular telly except the picture quality is better (we live out in the sticks and don't get brilliant TV reception). If you have a newish flat screen telly it could well have a computer input (VGA [usually blue plugs on the lead] or better DVI [usually white plugs]).

The downside is that you could end up spending to much time watching telly.

Thanks JH,

This is another example to drag myself into the 21st century and get a PC. I'm only 35 but as far as I'm concerend, vinyl is king over CD and slide film rules over digital. I'm in danger of becoming obsolete :D

To quote a press release...

"LEGENDARY SCOTTISH author, climber and television presenter Tom Weir is the tour guide in the inspirational and hugely successful Scottish television series Weir’s Way.

Weir takes us on a wonderful and in depth journey across Scotland’s breathtaking Highlands and Hebrides, in Weir’s Way – The Highlands And The Hebrides, which will be released on DVD courtesy of Acorn Media on 4 August 2008. The set is presented as a stunning three disc set and contains over three hours of amazing landscapes.

This remarkable collection features a series of compelling and extraordinary explorations of town and country including Berwick-upon-Tweed which changed hands between Scotland and England thirteen times; Kincardine home to the siege resistant Dunnotar Castle; The Breadalbanes where Black Duncan of the Cowl resided at Finlarig Castle; and Royal Deeside, home to Balmoral Castle and Queen Victoria's retreat at Glas allt Shiel.

Weir’s Way is a spectacular visual love letter to the undeniable splendour and magnificence of Scotland and a must for any nature lover or history buff."

Thanks for that Emily,

I don't know about others, but being stuck at home in London these types of videos keep me going until I can get back into the hills. I'm currently sat with my feet up with bad toes (abandoned the Cambrian Way), poring over Bill Birkett's Scafell book. Hurry up and heal toes! :D
