Gossamer Gear do a good one I understand, can't recall it's name though. It was availible from Wiwood Outdoor in Keswick, but last time I walked past the shop it appears their ultralight section has gone. Anyone know anything about this?

RE: tarps

Buy big! Its important that you buy big enough to protect occupants from wind blown rain and to prevent contact with the tarp. Mountain Laurel Designs grace duo would fit the bill. Available in Silny, spinnaker or spectralite. Great design (designed for backpacking not tank battles), well thought out and well made. Caternary ridgeline and perimeters, grommets to accomodate pole tips, 12 pegging points with easy tensioning linelocs. I have the spinntex version and am very pleased with it.

Buy big is definitely good advice -- it's pointless buying a tarp too small and then having to carry a bivi bag as well. Can't advise specifically on actual dimensions for two people, but I find 300cm x 300cm good for one.
As for Winwood, they concentrate on ski gear in the winter and most of the UL stuff goes upstairs. It's still available online and should be back on display next spring.

I guess a -15 bag and a tart would get you through the coldest of nights ;) As long as she carries her own gear it doesn't contradict any lightweight principals either!

I wish I had thought of taking a tart to keep me warm instead of all this tedious mucking about with expensive gear

RE: tarps

I use a tarp from Bob for solo use and its brilliant. He also does what is described as the BIG TARP

Maybe this can help. Contact Bob, he's full of wonderful advice.
