Just a note to let challengers know that due to fire safety risks, the upstairs sleeping loft at Ruigh Aiteachain - which I know a lot of Challengers use - is to be sealed off. Bunks will be fitted downstairs, but it means there'll be less space for sleeping in the bothy.

Work on this will probably take place over the winter.

Just spotted this - many (belated) thanks for the info. Seems odd (and a shame) that after many years of use there's suddenly a fire risk tho'... has something changed or have health and safety officers paid a visit?

Just part of the general insidious advance of H&S into all aspects of our lives .... it's not the fire risk as such but that fact that there's no means of escape from the sleeping loft should a fire break out in the room below. An unlikely event, but not impossible.
