Mountain Rescue presence in TGO

Sorry to start a new thread but I can't open your reply to my post - so I can't read your full reply either.

I don't want to get into a debate about policy within MR or anywhere else as I'm in no official position to do so - this is merely a personal thought.

All I mean by a working relationship is MR central having a dialogue, contact, with yourselves at TGO regarding publication of articles, upcoming events etc. I'm guessing that the bit of your reply I can't read is along the lines of TGO being happy to publish, or at least look at, such contact. It's a pure guess but I suspect that the contact does not flow towards yourselves. There are two local MR fund-raising walks each year that have not appeared in your events page, I guess because no-one has sent you the details. I'll ask the local team about that.

How about an article one month about rescue work in general, not just MR but Sarda, perhaps cave rescue and the Coastguard ? It'd be good to see such an article in TGO as you seem to be the only mag that devotes decent column inches to your articles.

RE: Mountain Rescue presence in TGO

Funnily enough Dave we've tried to feature a couple of MR teams in the past but they told us they didn't want the publicity. Something about not wanting to be made to look like heros! We published a feature on SARDA about a year ago.

As you guessed we're more than happy to publicise any fundraising activity etc.

Thanks for your reply - it certainly explains the absence of MR in TGO, but it's an odd stance for charities in need of support to be taking. After all the local papers report rescues often enough - even using the word heroes. (I'm only a trainee but I don't think of what the team does as heroic in any way - just helpful to others and personally quietly satisfying too) - but quite why MRTs have that degree of publicity shyness I don't know. It contrasts oddly with the active work I, and all the others, did in Motorcycle Action Group years ago - publicising events and rallies etc.

Interesting news article on the Mountain/Fell/Cave rescue initiative in June's issue. In fact some interesting news articles all round. Anyone got a spare £700,000+ they don't need ? - There's a free beer in it !
