I happened upon DMM Sewn Tape Slings while browsing in an outdoor shop this weekend. I often carry a couple of slings and a couple of medium sized karabiners in the bottom of my pack. However, my 20 year old, 2m by 25mm climbing slings weigh in at a 140g and are relatively bulky.
The DMM Slings are approximately 6mm wide. The two examples that I purchased have a circumference of 4.6m and 2.4m and cost £14 and £9 respectfully. These two slings weight approximately 60g and 30g each and are rated to 22Kn. The slim width means that they and pack nice and small. These are ideal for making tarp/tent anchors - or, as in my case, an impromptu shoulder strap for a carrying a small child’s bike.
As I’ve not climbed for more than 20 years and even then only really dabbled I’ll leave it to a more experienced climber to comment on their performance as a climbing tool.
