lack of activity

Could this be because of the banner saying your website is relaunching. This may be why people are not posting they get on the main page and agree with the banner and come back later.

RE: lack of activity

Mike it is getting quite sad now. I love this forum but sometimes you can go 3 days without anything. There must be something wrong!!!!!!!!

RE: lack of activity

take the evidence from today tgo challenge - 35 days conservation - 30 days gear swap sell - 13 days hiking partners - 10 days travel - 29 days ultralight - 62 days Gear reviews - 4 days that is 70% of the forum measured in days and a few over months I posted the original thread 3 days ago and I have heard nothing until mike commented Why spend all the time on this new website and neglect the old one [thumbdown]

RE: lack of activity

I'm not the most active member of this forum just now, so my comments on the lack of activity on this forum could probably be filed under "dingo's kidneys"
The TGO Challenge section is probably quiet because there's also a tgochallenge.co.uk website with a forum thats been going a long time and is where most TGO Challengers make comments and have arguments. That forum has been quiet too, but TGO Challenge traffic is pretty seasonal and will be busy between Christmas and May (roughly)
So that bit is a duplicate and its been a quiet time anyway.
I can't account for the rest, although it would seem that membership of the "community" is relatively low compared with other forums and people just don't have anything to say and aren't being routinely "poked" by the staff with stupid questions such as "What is your favourite hill?" and so on as in another forum that I never look at (obviously). Many other forums (?fora) seem very quiet too. Maybe it'll all pick up in the winter. Maybe we should get a few trolls to ask "Scarfell - will I need kraberiners" (sic), "Should I take my girlfriend up the miners track?" and "Magnetic North, True North,Grid North, North Face - Just how many Norths do we need and why I never bother with a compass or a ruler"

RE: lack of activity

I noticed the lack of activity too angry climber. I can't speak for others, but personally, due to the recession (and other reasons), I've had to curtail my backpacking trips recently so haven't posted for advice on routes/gear etc. Maybe it's the same for others?

RE: lack of activity

I think the reason for lack of activity is down to the software used. Since TGO started using this package I no longer get email notifications of a response. And the message system is woeful - there's no link back to the post or replies on a thread. The fundamental of communication is feedback, forums need this to thrive. Someone posts a question, they get a response, the email feeds back to the site, and they post their response. Whilst on the site they see a topic that they want to add to... and so on.

Although why I'm bothering with this I dont know cos no one else on this thread will know that I've posted a response...

RE: lack of activity

I check the forum every day but have started to use another more livley forum. It is a real shame that TGO towers seem so wrapped up in the new website that by the time it opens up there will be no active members

RE: lack of activity

I'm sorry AC but I'm afraid we can't be everywhere all the time. I've probably mentioned this to the point of boredom but there are only two of us work on TGO. Apart from getting the next print issue out we have, as you say, been wrapped up designing and working on the new website. I wish it could be different - it would be lovely to have the time to come on and get involved in debates etc but we have pressing matters on hand, like getting the next issue out.
Hope to have the new website up and running by the end of October. Thanks to everyone for their patience.
