And I can commend the Skye Trail to you - from the northern tip of Trotternish to Broadford. About 75 miles of stunning landscapes. I have DVD's of it on my own website and the book will be out in the autumn

Whilst you're on the Skye trail - which can only be stunning - I can recommend a couple of eating establishments more or less en route (well, nearby anyway) from my holiday up there last year.

The Kilmartin at Staffin - it doesn't look especially promising but the service was good and the food great - Kilmartin burger especially.

Creelers Seafood restaurant near Broadford - a little pricey maybe but the food (we had Cajun seafood gumbo) was truely excellent and worth every penny.

Off the Trail but still on Skye try the Blue Shed Cafe on the road from Broadford to Elgol - a couple have set up this cafe as a 'dream' job and have done a good job of providing decent simple cafe food.

On the true tourist trail the restaurant at the Clan Donald centre at Armadale actually provides really good food in a nice setting - you could even get touristy and wander around the grounds - quite nice if you like that sort of thing - the views from the roadside there across to Glenelg, Loch Hourn, Knoydart etc are pretty good and the Sleat peninusla gives a different aspect of Skye from the more famous viewsd of the Cuillin.

Tourist promo over - but really it's good to support the local businesses and places like the Kilmartin won't bust your budget either
