RE: Gear test Gripe

Angry climber, I'm not sure where you get the idea that the gear tests are heavily weighted towards women, because they aren't. There aren't even women's gear tests in every issue (there used to be but this hasn't been so for many months).

If you think I am wrong try checking the gear section on this site. I only checked the first page - clothing - baselayers and the majority are based on womens tests. Maybe its me thats wrong but with a readership of three men to one women you would actually expect a male bias but instead it favours women.

I actually started to doubt myself so I opened the next page of the gear section softshells and most of the gear test are women specific

Maybe its just me but your denial just does not add up to fact why don't you look through your own site.

Angry climber, I wasn't talking about the site but the magazine. Everything on the site appears in the magazine first but I haven't checked the balance of male/female reviews on the site - not everything has appeared yet. In the magazine there are far more reviews of men's gear then women's. The latest TGO - out now - has reviews of trail shoes by John Manning and reviews of soft shell trousers by me. No women's reviews at all.

To be honest you have actually just proved me correct on both examples the site is female biased and you confirmed the site is full of reviews first seen in the mag thus confirming that lately the mag has also been female biased

If you look at the gear sections you have to remove items like stoves etc that have no male or female bias then check the actual clothing and boots gear test and you will find they are nearly all by Judy with an obvious female bias.

When you do a review from a male perspective you always note if there is a female equivelent garment but when Judy reviews things she only ever confirms the femal version. That is a female bias.

No, what this shows is that not all the reviews from the magazine have appeared on the site. I have the review schedules for the magazines for the last few years - and of course I know what I have reviewed - and there is no female bias in the magazine.
