Its a great area, live just down the road and try to get up as often as possible. Most people drive on by distracted by the Lakes and the Yorkshire, so its not too busy either! I am trying to find out more behind Langden 'Castle' if anyone knows anything..

A recent edition of BBC's 'Country Tracks' followed the Ribble Valley, with some deviations. It may still be available on iPlayer under:

A few of us walking from Preston to Garstang along the Lancaster canal on Good Friday, then the more hardy amongst us are walking across to Settle, with an overnight bivi stop in the Slaidburn area.

RE: Forest of Bowland

I once walked from the Jubilee Tower to Tarnbrook then (foolishly) up into thick mist. I still wonder how on earth I ever found my way off the tops - no landmarks, just endless moor and bog with zero visibility. It only took 5 mins to be completely lost. Long after dark I stumbled down to the road and vowed never to go there again! Since then I've camped high up on the hills here, looking down on lonely farmsteads - it's certainly a different place when the sun is out and the curlews call to wake you up in the morning.

The bogs, the wet and the mist - fantastic!

Recently walked across to Settle with a bivi out on the tops fantastic weather, couple light showers in the night but glorious sunshine and hardly saw a soul

RE: Forest of Bowland

Trying to drum up some local interest for walking in this area. To this end I have recently started a Facebook group to share planned walks, and pictures etc

RE: Forest of Bowland

Regarding Langden 'castle' - I found this on the internet - it's not much but a start perhaps.
Langden castle

I presume you've already had the answer from Martin Charlesworth's blog regarding the tradition that it was used as a stop-over for prisoners on their way to trial in Lancaster.
