RE: Advice on contents of my pack please!

I carry a lot less

50L pack (its my only 'small' pack)
Waterproof jacket (trousers only when expecting HEAVY rain)
Buff
Mini 1st aid kit
Petzl Tikka torch
Mobile phone (also is GPS)
Food
1-2L water (weather dependant)
Fleece jumper/gilet
Trekking poles maybe
Bivi bag possibly
Map, compass

Wearing, lightweight trousers and shirt, probably a windshirt.

In winter there'd be much more stuff.

RE: Advice on contents of my pack please!

Hi Jay,

I'd miss my hat, gloves and waterproof jacket. I do like the idea of a phone / GPS in one unit. Unfortunately, my phone is my Blackberry that I use for work and couldn't replace it with a normal phone. While it has a GPS built in, it doesn't give me an OS grid reference. I'll either need to buy a second handset for walking or take out a personal mobile contract in addition to my office phone. (Which has some other appealing advantages.)

I know I've just changed to a windows based phone so I can run my quo software but before then I had a nokia 5800 on symbian and using the information downloaded from http://utmdata.blogspot.com/ I had a little programme that would use your internal gps and give you a grid reference based on your country. I just turned off all the other countries and left the OS one active.
Its a kind of 'does what it says on the tin' and saves you having to purchase other software - yes its free.
Might not help because of the blackberry but all others may be able to use it.

The app for Nokia phones is Java based, so will probably run on other phones that can run Java. I have found it very useful.
